Taking the bar of a chain saw

The rod guides the saw chain during operation. Over time the bar is bent or requires some lubrication to keep the chain running smoothly. When it comes time for repairs or maintenance of the bar, you must have the chainsaw bar. Regardless of the brand or model of your saw chain, bar removal process is generally the same. Replacement bars are available in the centers of home improvement and hardware stores.

Things you need
- Leather work gloves
- wrench

Place the saw on a flat surface, preferably a work bench. Disconnect the spark plug wire from spark plug. Put on a pair of leather work gloves to protect hands from the chain, while removing the bar.

Loosen and remove the two nuts of the guide bar on the right side of the saw with the tool that comes with the saw, or use a wrench. Pull the cover of the chain saw.

Grasp the bar on both sides with your fingers and push the chain saw the body. Remove the chain sprocket on the chain saw, pull the chain and bar of the unit.

Pull the chain out of the bar, and put the string flat on work surface. The bar is ready for repair or replacement.
