Electric or Gas Powered Chainsaws - Which is better for you?
When choosing between a chainsaw electric or gas power think about where you live, and landscape. Do you live in a city with only a few small trees on your property? You're probably better off buying an electric chainsaw. However, if you live in the country and are surrounded by trees that are more likely to have large branches on the ground after a storm and will be further from the house.
When you buy an electric chainsaw, always keep in mind that you will get your energy. You will be forced to take the saw no more than 100 feet away from the power supply, so if you live on three acres, you will not do it.
Think of the jobs that are going to be doing. Will you be doing the heavy duty cutting of large branches, or deforestation? Looking for something to help prune a few trees in your garden? These are the questions that will help you determine which is right for you chainsaw.
Both types of saws have their advantages and disadvantages. If you are shorter you may want to consider getting the electric chainsaw. It will be much lighter and more manageable. You also will not have to worry about loading the surrounding gas can, get the gas / oil right. You, on the other hand, has to worry not to cut through the cord.
No matter what type of chainsaw you ultimately decide, make sure to use safety equipment every use your saw. You should also make sure your chainsaw chain remains strong. Using a dull chainsaw is the fastest way to have a chainsaw accident. It is imperative for safety reasons to keep your saw sharp, if you do not know how, take it to a professional to be sharpened.

This review is from: Poulan Pro 952031152 18- to 20-Inch Gas Chain Saw Carrying Case (Lawn & Patio) Great case. Sturdy, closes securely.Does not fit all poulan saws. Probably fits all gas units, but does not fit the 400E unless you do some case surgery to remove part of the inner wall on the back right side. Once that part is removed, it will fit the 400E. It is also large enough to carry a few spare chains (I have 2 spares in mine), a quart of oil, the tool, a cleaning brush, spare bar, and rags. Overall a solid case. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: Poulan Pro 952031152 18- to 20-Inch Gas Chain Saw Carrying Case (Lawn & Patio) I almost didn't buy this because of some of the reviews that stated that the Poulan 400E didn't fit in it. This is absolutely not the case (pun intended!). I purchased both this case and the 400E on the same day from Amazon and they both arrived on the same day. I was able to take the 400E out of it's box and place it immediately into the case with no problems whatsoever and, yes, the case closed just fine. As mentioned by several others, the case is very large and 400E and lot of other things can fit in it, such as a quart of chain oil, an extra chain, the instructions, rags, gloves, extension cord, etc. I bought this primarily because I didn't want my 3 girls to be tempted to touch or use the chainsaw. I was thinking more of protecting them than the chainsaw, although the case is very well built and I'm sure it'll be more than adequate to protect the chainsaw as well. Other than maybe being bigger than it needs to be, I cannot think of anything negative to say about this case... This review is from: Poulan Pro 952031152 18- to 20-Inch Gas Chain Saw Carrying Case (Lawn & Patio) Bought a Husqvarna 455 Rancher chainsaw w/ 20" bar recently and was looking for a case. The 455 is pretty big and I was hesitant about buying this case, afraid the case would be too small. Unfortunately, my assumptions were correct. The case is slightly too small for the 455. Can't quite close the lid of the case all the way due to the chain brake handle barely bumping the lid. Otherwise, it fits every other dimension of the chainsaw quite nicely.I almost returned the case, but decided to keep it and dremel out a notch inside the case to accommodate the chain brake handle. Worked like a charm. Looks like it came from the factory that way. I uploaded a couple of pics to show where I notched the case. In short, this case will accommodate a Husky 455, with a little modification. This is a great-quality case and snaps closed tightly. 5 stars. |

This review is from: Husqvarna 450 18-Inch 50.2cc X-Torq 2-Cycle Gas Powered Chain Saw With Smart Start (CARB Compliant) (Lawn & Patio) Had need of a new saw to replace an older one that was starting to give me trouble. besides that I have been wanting a second saw and this gave me a good excuse to get one. I typically cut 8 to 10 cord per year for the past 30 years and have had experience with several types and sizes. My favorite was the Husky 55 which I still have but needs some work. I checked out the reviews on the Husky 50 with the most being very good with a few bad reviews but then I saw the same with Stihl reviews so I came to the conclusion some people don't really know much about starting or using a chain saw. Anyhow Amazon had this one for a price that couldn't be beat so I thought I would take a chance on buying it online as opposed to a dealer. I wasn't disappointed. No problem with start-up. The first job I had was to clean up some storm damage. Had a large red oak uproot. At the stump it was about 29" diameter. This saw cut through that like a knife through butter. I cut up that tree in no time. The... Read more 24 of 24 people found the following review helpful By John C Rothwell (Bluffton, SC, US) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: Husqvarna 450 18-Inch 50.2cc X-Torq 2-Cycle Gas Powered Chain Saw With Smart Start (CARB Compliant) (Lawn & Patio) In my humble homeowner opinion, there are two good chain saws on the market today. Stihl and Husqvarna. The Husky 450 is an excellent medium size saw for the homeowner like me. I like the saw because it is easy to start, quiet and powerful. I would recommend it to anyone. The 18 inch bar works for the size tree I typically cut. I keep the chains sharp and have several on hand to change in the field. The bar tool comes with the saw for easy chain changeout. My two sons also use the saw and rate it as highly as I do! 35 of 38 people found the following review helpful This review is from: Husqvarna 450 18-Inch 50.2cc X-Torq 2-Cycle Gas Powered Chain Saw With Smart Start (CARB Compliant) (Lawn & Patio) If you don't know how to start a chainsaw than you should not be using one! Once the saw fires you turn the choke off and pull the start cord. If you keep trying to start it with the choke on it will flood the engine. Read the user's manual, it talks about it in the manual. I just purchased the 450 and it cuts like a dream and has the power to really do the trick. I like the fact that I can put a 20" bar on this saw and have the power to get the job done. I'm not having any issues getting the saw to run even in below freezing temps. Make sure you use winter grade bar oil if you cut in the winter. It's only been two days of solid cutting but this machine has out preformed my last saw. Hopefully with good maintenance habits I can keep this thing around for a long time. Oh yea...wear chaps and a helmet. I love that macho attitude with no protective gear. You'd be amazed at how fast you can bleed out when you hit an artery!Be Safe... |
